Surah Al Bayyinah (سورۃ البینۃ), also known as Surah Al-Bayyina, is the 98th chapter of the Holy Quran. Surah Al-Bayyinah Full – Arabic Text, Transliteration & English Translation
Verse 1 Arabic: لَمْ يَكُنِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ وَالْمُشْرِكِينَ مُنفَكِّينَ حَتَّىٰ تَأْتِيَهُمُ الْبَيِّنَةُ
Transliteration: Lam yakunil lazeena kafaroo min ahlil kitaabi wal mushrikeena munfakkeena hattaa ta’tiyahumul bayyinah
English: Those who disbelieved from the People of the Scripture and the polytheists were not to be parted [from misbelief] until there came to them clear evidence.
Verse 2 Arabic: رَسُولٌ مِّنَ اللَّهِ يَتْلُو صُحُفًا مُّطَهَّرَةً
Transliteration: Rasoolum minallaahi yatloo suhufam mutahharah
English: A Messenger from Allah, reciting purified scriptures.
Verse 3 Arabic: فِيهَا كُتُبٌ قَيِّمَةٌ
Transliteration: Feehaa kutubun qayyimah
English: Within which are correct writings.
Verse 4 Arabic: وَمَا تَفَرَّقَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ إِلَّا مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَا جَاءَتْهُمُ الْبَيِّنَةُ
Transliteration: Wa maa tafarraqal lazeena ootul kitaaba illaa mim ba’di maa jaa’athumul bayyinah English: Nor did those who were given the Scripture become divided until after the clear proof came to them.
Verse 5 Arabic: وَمَا أُمِرُوا إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُوا اللَّهَ مُخْلِصِينَ لَهُ الدِّينَ حُنَفَاءَ وَيُقِيمُوا الصَّلَاةَ وَيُؤْتُوا الزَّكَاةَ ۚ وَذَٰلِكَ دِينُ الْقَيِّمَةِ
Transliteration: Wa maa umiroo illaa liya’budullaaha mukhliseena lahud deena hunafaa’a wa yuqeemus salaata wa yu’tuz zakaata wa zaalika deenul qayyimah
English: And they were not commanded except to worship Allah, being sincere to Him in religion, inclining to truth, and to establish prayer and to give zakah. And that is the correct religion.
Verse 6 Arabic: إِنَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ وَالْمُشْرِكِينَ فِي نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا ۚ أُولَٰئِكَ هُمْ شَرُّ الْبَرِيَّةِ
Transliteration: Innal lazeena kafaroo min ahlil kitaabi wal mushrikeena fee naari jahannama khaalideena feehaa ulaa’ika hum sharrul bariyyah
English: Indeed, those who disbelieve from the People of the Scripture and the polytheists will be in the fire of Hell, abiding eternally therein. Those are the worst of creatures.
Verse 7 Arabic: إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ أُولَٰئِكَ هُمْ خَيْرُ الْبَرِيَّةِ
Transliteration: Innal lazeena aamanoo wa ‘amilus saalihaati ulaa’ika hum khayrul bariyyah
English: Indeed, those who believe and do righteous deeds — those are the best of creatures.
Verse 8 Arabic: جَزَاؤُهُمْ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ جَنَّاتُ عَدْنٍ تَجْرِي مِن تَحْتِهَا الْأَنْهَارُ خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا أَبَدًا ۖ رَّضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمْ وَرَضُوا عَنْهُ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ لِمَنْ خَشِيَ رَبَّهُ Transliteration: Jazaauhum ‘inda Rabbihim jannaatu ‘Adnin tajree min tahtihal anhaaru khaalideena feehaa abadan radiyallaahu ‘anhum wa radoo ‘anhu zaalika liman khashiya Rabbah
English: Their reward with Allah will be gardens of perpetual residence beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever. Allah is pleased with them, and they are pleased with Him. That is for he who fears his Lord.
History and Background of Surah Al-Bayyinah
Surah Al-Bayyinah was revealed in Makkah during the early to middle period of Prophethood. It was revealed in response to the stubbornness of the People of the Book and the idol-worshippers of Quraysh, who kept demanding a clear proof (Bayyinah) from the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ despite the clear signs they were witnessing.
The word “Bayyinah” means a clear, manifest proof or evidence. This Surah beautifully addresses their demand by declaring that the biggest evidence is the Quran itself and the character of the Prophet ﷺ. It also clarifies the correct path for success — faith in Allah and good deeds.
According to some narrations, this Surah was revealed after Surah Al-Alaq and before the Hijrah. It comforted the Prophet ﷺ and the small group of early Muslims while delivering a strong warning to those who rejected the truth despite having clear evidence.
Benefits and Virtues of Surah Al-Bayyinah
Surah Al-Bayyinah is a very powerful and clear Surah that distinguishes between truth and falsehood. The Prophet ﷺ and his companions gave great importance to this Surah. Its main virtue is that it clearly explains the correct path of success — sincere faith in Allah and righteous actions.
Regular recitation of Surah Al-Bayyinah increases clarity of faith, removes doubts, and strengthens conviction. Many scholars recommend reciting it for protection from misguidance and to seek the pleasure of Allah. It also carries great reward because it emphasizes the core message of Islam: Tawheed and good deeds.
