Surah Yusuf

Surah Yusuf (سورة يوسف) is the 12th chapter of the Holy Quran, named after Prophet Yusuf (Joseph, AS). It was revealed in Makkah and contains 111 verses across 12 rukus, located in Juz 12. This Surah is unique because it presents one continuous story from start to end—narrating the life of Prophet Yusuf (AS) in rich detail.

Meaning and Importance of Surah Yusuf

Surah Yusuf beautifully captures the journey of a young boy who becomes a Prophet and a ruler, despite immense trials. His story includes betrayal by his brothers, being sold as a slave, false accusations, imprisonment, and finally, elevation to high status in Egypt.

This Surah was revealed during the Year of Sorrow (ʿĀm al-Ḥuzn) when Prophet Muhammad ﷺ lost his beloved wife Khadijah (RA) and his uncle Abu Talib. It came as a source of comfort and hope, assuring the Prophet and his followers that relief comes after hardship, and that Allah’s plan always prevails.
