1.
Arabic: كٓهيعٓصٓ
Transliteration: Kāf, Hā, Yā, ‘Ayn, Ṣād.
English: Kaf, Ha, Ya, ‘Ayn, Sad. [Only Allah knows the full meaning of these letters.]

2.
Arabic: ذِكْرُ رَحْمَتِ رَبِّكَ عَبْدَهُۥ زَكَرِيَّا
Transliteration: Dhik’ru raḥmati rabbika ʿabdahu zakariyyā.
English: [This is] a mention of the mercy of your Lord to His servant Zechariah.

3.
Arabic: إِذْ نَادَىٰ رَبَّهُۥ نِدَاءً خَفِيًّا
Transliteration: Idh nādā rabbahu nidā’an khafiyyā.
English: When he called to his Lord a private supplication.

4.
Arabic: قَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّي وَهَنَ الْعَظْمُ مِنِّي وَاشْتَعَلَ الرَّأْسُ شَيْبًا وَلَمْ أَكُن بِدُعَائِكَ رَبِّ شَقِيًّا
Transliteration: Qāla rabbi innī wahana al-ʿaẓmu minnī wa-ishtaʿala al-ra’su shayban wa-lam akun bi-duʿā’ika rabbi shaqiyyā.
English: He said, “My Lord, indeed my bones have weakened, and my head has filled with white hair, and never have I been in my supplication to You, my Lord, unhappy.

5.
Arabic: وَإِنِّي خِفْتُ الْمَوَالِيَ مِن وَرَائِي وَكَانَتِ امْرَأَتِي عَاقِرًا فَهَبْ لِي مِن لَّدُنكَ وَلِيًّا
Transliteration: Wa-innī khiftu al-mawāliya min warā’ī wa-kānati imra’atī ʿāqiran fa-hab lī min ladunka waliyyā.
English: And indeed, I fear the successors after me, and my wife is barren, so give me from Yourself an heir.

6.
Arabic: يَرِثُنِي وَيَرِثُ مِنْ آلِ يَعْقُوبَ وَاجْعَلْهُ رَبِّ رَضِيًّا
Transliteration: Yarithunī wa-yarithu min āli yaʿqūba wa-jʿalhu rabbi raḍiyyā.
English: Who will inherit me and inherit from the family of Jacob. And make him, my Lord, pleasing [to You].”

7.
Arabic: يَا زَكَرِيَّا إِنَّا نُبَشِّرُكَ بِغُلَامٍ اسْمُهُ يَحْيَىٰ لَمْ نَجْعَل لَّهُ مِن قَبْلُ سَمِيًّا
Transliteration: Yā zakariyyā innā nubashshiruka bi-ghulāmin ismuhu yaḥyā lam najʿal lahu min qablu samiyyā.
English: [He was told], “O Zechariah, indeed We give you good tidings of a boy whose name will be John. We have not assigned to any before [him] this name.”

Arabic: قَالَ رَبِّ أَنَّىٰ يَكُونُ لِي غُلَامٌ وَكَانَتِ امْرَأَتِي عَاقِرًا وَقَدْ بَلَغْتُ مِنَ الْكِبَرِ عِتِيًّا
Transliteration: Qāla rabbi annā yakūnu lī ghulāmun wa-kānati imra’atī ʿāqiran wa-qad balaghtu mina al-kibari ʿitiyyā.
English: He said, “My Lord, how will I have a boy when my wife is barren and I have reached extreme old age?”

9.
Arabic: قَالَ كَذَٰلِكَ قَالَ رَبُّكَ هُوَ عَلَيَّ هَيِّنٌ وَقَدْ خَلَقْتُكَ مِن قَبْلُ وَلَمْ تَكُ شَيْئًا
Transliteration: Qāla kadhālika qāla rabbuka huwa ʿalayya hayyinun wa-qad khalaqtuka min qablu wa-lam taku shay’ā.
English: [An angel] said, “Thus [it will be]; your Lord says, ‘It is easy for Me, for I created you before, while you were nothing.'”

10.
Arabic: قَالَ رَبِّ اجْعَل لِّي آيَةً ۚ قَالَ آيَتُكَ أَلَّا تُكَلِّمَ النَّاسَ ثَلَاثَ لَيَالٍ سَوِيًّا
Transliteration: Qāla rabbi ijʿal lī āyah. Qāla āyatuka allā tukallima al-nāsa thalātha layālin sawiyyā.
English: He said, “My Lord, make for me a sign.” He said, “Your sign is that you will not speak to the people for three nights, [being] sound.”

11.
Arabic: فَخَرَجَ عَلَىٰ قَوْمِهِ مِنَ الْمِحْرَابِ فَأَوْحَىٰ إِلَيْهِمْ أَن سَبِّحُوا بُكْرَةً وَعَشِيًّا
Transliteration: Fa-kharaja ʿalā qawmihi mina al-miḥrābi fa-awḥā ilayhim an sabbiḥū bukratan wa-ʿashiyyā.
English: So he came out to his people from the prayer chamber and signaled to them to exalt [Allah] in the morning and afternoon.

12.
Arabic: يَا يَحْيَىٰ خُذِ الْكِتَابَ بِقُوَّةٍ ۖ وَآتَيْنَاهُ الْحُكْمَ صَبِيًّا
Transliteration: Yā yaḥyā khudhi al-kitāba bi-quwwah. Wa-ātaynāhu al-ḥukma ṣabiyyā.
English: [Allah said], “O John, take the Scripture with determination.” And We gave him judgement [while yet] a boy.

13.
Arabic: وَحَنَانًا مِّن لَّدُنَّا وَزَكَاةً ۖ وَكَانَ تَقِيًّا
Transliteration: Wa-ḥanānan min ladunnā wa-zakāh, wa-kāna taqiyyā.
English: And affection from Us and purity, and he was fearing of Allah.

14.
Arabic: وَبَرًّا بِوَالِدَيْهِ وَلَمْ يَكُن جَبَّارًا عَصِيًّا
Transliteration: Wa-barran bi-wālidayhi wa-lam yakun jabbāran ʿaṣiyyā.
English: And dutiful to his parents, and he was not a disobedient tyrant.

15.
Arabic: وَسَلَامٌ عَلَيْهِ يَوْمَ وُلِدَ وَيَوْمَ يَمُوتُ وَيَوْمَ يُبْعَثُ حَيًّا
Transliteration: Wa-salāmun ʿalayhi yawma wulida wa-yawma yamūtu wa-yawma yubʿathu ḥayyā.
English: And peace be upon him the day he was born and the day he dies and the day he is raised alive.

16.
Arabic: وَاذْكُرْ فِي الْكِتَابِ مَرْيَمَ إِذِ انتَبَذَتْ مِنْ أَهْلِهَا مَكَانًا شَرْقِيًّا
Transliteration: Wa-dhkur fi al-kitābi maryama idhi intabadhat min ahlihā makānan sharqiyyā.
English: And mention in the Book [the story of] Mary, when she withdrew from her family to a place toward the east.

17.
Arabic: فَاتَّخَذَتْ مِن دُونِهِمْ حِجَابًا فَأَرْسَلْنَا إِلَيْهَا رُوحَنَا فَتَمَثَّلَ لَهَا بَشَرًا سَوِيًّا
Transliteration: Fa-ittakhadhat min dūnihim ḥijāban fa-arsalnā ilayhā rūḥanā fa-tamaththala lahā basharan sawiyyā.
English: And she took, in seclusion from them, a screen. Then We sent to her Our Angel [Gabriel], and he appeared before her as a well-proportioned man.

18.
Arabic: قَالَتْ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِالرَّحْمَٰنِ مِنكَ إِن كُنتَ تَقِيًّا
Transliteration: Qālat innī aʿūdhu bi-al-raḥmāni minka in kunta taqiyyā.
English: She said, “Indeed, I seek refuge in the Most Merciful from you, if you are fearing of Allah.”

19.
Arabic: قَالَ إِنَّمَا أَنَا رَسُولُ رَبِّكِ لِأَهَبَ لَكِ غُلَامًا زَكِيًّا
Transliteration: Qāla innamā ana rasūlu rabbiki li-ahaba laki ghulāman zakiyyā.
English: He said, “I am only the messenger of your Lord to give you [news of] a pure boy.”

20.
Arabic: قَالَتْ أَنَّىٰ يَكُونُ لِي غُلَامٌ وَلَمْ يَمْسَسْنِي بَشَرٌ وَلَمْ أَكُ بَغِيًّا
Transliteration: Qālat annā yakūnu lī ghulāmun wa-lam yamsasnī basharun wa-lam aku baghiyyā.
English: She said, “How can I have a boy while no man has touched me and I have not been unchaste?”

21.
Arabic: قَالَ كَذَٰلِكِ قَالَ رَبُّكِ هُوَ عَلَيَّ هَيِّنٌ ۖ وَلِنَجْعَلَهُ آيَةً لِّلنَّاسِ وَرَحْمَةً مِّنَّا ۚ وَكَانَ أَمْرًا مَّقْضِيًّا
Transliteration: Qāla kadhāliki qāla rabbuki huwa ʿalayya hayyinun wa-li-najʿalahu āyatan lil-nāsi wa-raḥmatan minnā wa-kāna amran maqḍiyyā.
English: He said, “Thus [it will be]; your Lord says, ‘It is easy for Me, and We will make him a sign to the people and a mercy from Us. And it is a matter [already] decreed.'”

22.
Arabic: فَحَمَلَتْهُ فَانتَبَذَتْ بِهِ مَكَانًا قَصِيًّا
Transliteration: Fa-ḥamalathu fa-intabadhat bihi makānan qaṣiyyā.
English: So she conceived him, and she withdrew with him to a remote place.

23.
Arabic: فَأَجَاءَهَا الْمَخَاضُ إِلَىٰ جِذْعِ النَّخْلَةِ قَالَتْ يَا لَيْتَنِي مِتُّ قَبْلَ هَٰذَا وَكُنتُ نَسْيًا مَّنسِيًّا
Transliteration: Fa-ajā’ahā al-makhāḍu ilā jidhʿi al-nakhlati qālat yā laytanī mittu qabla hādhā wa-kuntu nasyan mansiyyā.
English: And the pains of childbirth drove her to the trunk of a palm tree. She said, “Oh, I wish I had died before this and was in oblivion, forgotten.”

24.
Arabic: فَنَادَاهَا مِن تَحْتِهَا أَلَّا تَحْزَنِي قَدْ جَعَلَ رَبُّكِ تَحْتَكِ سَرِيًّا
Transliteration: Fa-nādāhā min taḥtihā allā taḥzanī qad jaʿala rabbuki taḥtaki sariyyā.
English: But he called her from below her, “Do not grieve; your Lord has placed below you a stream.

25.
Arabic: وَهُزِّي إِلَيْكِ بِجِذْعِ النَّخْلَةِ تُسَاقِطْ عَلَيْكِ رُطَبًا جَنِيًّا
Transliteration: Wa-huzzī ilayki bi-jidhʿi al-nakhlati tusāqiṭ ʿalayki ruṭaban janiyyā.
English: And shake toward you the trunk of the palm tree; it will drop upon you ripe, fresh dates.

26.
Arabic: فَكُلِي وَاشْرَبِي وَقَرِّي عَيْنًا ۖ فَإِمَّا تَرَيِنَّ مِنَ الْبَشَرِ أَحَدًا فَقُولِي إِنِّي نَذَرْتُ لِلرَّحْمَٰنِ صَوْمًا فَلَنْ أُكَلِّمَ الْيَوْمَ إِنسِيًّا
Transliteration: Fa-kulī wa-ishrabī wa-qarrī ʿaynā. Fa-immā tarayinna mina al-bashari aḥadan fa-qūlī innī nadhartu lil-raḥmāni ṣawman fa-lan ukallima al-yawma insiyyā.
English: So eat and drink and be contented. And if you see from among humanity anyone, say, ‘Indeed, I have vowed to the Most Merciful abstinence, so I will not speak today to any man.'”

27.
Arabic: فَأَتَتْ بِهِ قَوْمَهَا تَحْمِلُهُ ۖ قَالُوا يَا مَرْيَمُ لَقَدْ جِئْتِ شَيْئًا فَرِيًّا
Transliteration: Fa-atat bihi qawmahā taḥmiluhu. Qālū yā maryamu laqad ji’ti shay’an fariyyā.
English: Then she brought him to her people, carrying him. They said, “O Mary, you have certainly done a thing unprecedented.

28.
Arabic: يَا أُخْتَ هَارُونَ مَا كَانَ أَبُوكِ امْرَأَ سَوْءٍ وَمَا كَانَتْ أُمُّكِ بَغِيًّا
Transliteration: Yā ukhta hārūna mā kāna abūki imra’a saw’in wa-mā kānat ummuki baghiyyā.
English: O sister of Aaron, your father was not a man of evil, nor was your mother unchaste.”

29.
Arabic: فَأَشَارَتْ إِلَيْهِ ۖ قَالُوا كَيْفَ نُكَلِّمُ مَن كَانَ فِي الْمَهْدِ صَبِيًّا
Transliteration: Fa-ashārat ilayhi. Qālū kayfa nukallimu man kāna fī al-mahdi ṣabiyyā.
English: So she pointed to him. They said, “How can we speak to one who is in the cradle a child?”

30.
Arabic: قَالَ إِنِّي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ آتَانِيَ الْكِتَابَ وَجَعَلَنِي نَبِيًّا
Transliteration: Qāla innī ʿabdu llāhi ātāniya al-kitāba wa-jaʿalanī nabiyyā.
English: [Jesus] said, “Indeed, I am the servant of Allah. He has given me the Scripture and made me a prophet.

31.
Arabic: وَجَعَلَنِي مُبَارَكًا أَيْنَ مَا كُنتُ وَأَوْصَانِي بِالصَّلَاةِ وَالزَّكَاةِ مَا دُمْتُ حَيًّا
Transliteration: Wa-jaʿalanī mubārakan ayna mā kuntu wa-awṣānī bi-al-ṣalāti wa-al-zakāti mā dumtu ḥayyā.
English: And He has made me blessed wherever I am and has enjoined upon me prayer and zakah as long as I remain alive.

32.
Arabic: وَبَرًّا بِوَالِدَتِي وَلَمْ يَجْعَلْنِي جَبَّارًا شَقِيًّا
Transliteration: Wa-barran bi-wālidatī wa-lam yajʿalnī jabbāran shaqiyyā.
English: And [made me] dutiful to my mother, and He has not made me a wretched tyrant.

33.
Arabic: وَالسَّلَامُ عَلَيَّ يَوْمَ وُلِدتُّ وَيَوْمَ أَمُوتُ وَيَوْمَ أُبْعَثُ حَيًّا
Transliteration: Wa-al-salāmu ʿalayya yawma wulidtu wa-yawma amūtu wa-yawma ubʿathu ḥayyā.
English: And peace is on me the day I was born and the day I will die and the day I am raised alive.”

34.
Arabic: ذَٰلِكَ عِيسَى ابْنُ مَرْيَمَ ۖ قَوْلَ الْحَقِّ الَّذِي فِيهِ يَمْتَرُونَ
Transliteration: Dhālika ʿīsā ibnu maryama qawla al-ḥaqqi alladhī fīhi yamtarūna.
English: That is Jesus, the son of Mary – the word of truth about which they are in dispute.

35.
Arabic: مَا كَانَ لِلَّهِ أَن يَتَّخِذَ مِن وَلَدٍ ۖ سُبْحَانَهُ ۚ إِذَا قَضَىٰ أَمْرًا فَإِنَّمَا يَقُولُ لَهُ كُن فَيَكُونُ
Transliteration: Mā kāna lillāhi an yattakhidha min waladin subḥānah. Idhā qaḍā amran fa-innamā yaqūlu lahu kun fa-yakūn.
English: It is not [befitting] for Allah to take a son; exalted is He! When He decrees a matter, He only says to it, “Be,” and it is.

36.
Arabic: وَإِنَّ اللَّهَ رَبِّي وَرَبُّكُمْ فَاعْبُدُوهُ ۚ هَٰذَا صِرَاطٌ مُّسْتَقِيمٌ
Transliteration: Wa-inna llāha rabbī wa-rabbukum fa-ʿbudūhu. Hādhā ṣirāṭun mustaqīm.
English: [Jesus said], “And indeed, Allah is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him. That is a straight path.”

37.
Arabic: فَاخْتَلَفَ الْأَحْزَابُ مِن بَيْنِهِمْ ۖ فَوَيْلٌ لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا مِن مَّشْهَدِ يَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ
Transliteration: Fa-ikhtalafa al-aḥzābu min baynihim. Fa-waylun lilladhīna kafarū min mashhadi yawmin ʿaẓīm.
English: Then the factions differed [among themselves]. So woe to those who have disbelieved from the scene of a tremendous Day.

38.
Arabic: أَسْمِعْ بِهِمْ وَأَبْصِرْ يَوْمَ يَأْتُونَنَا ۖ لَٰكِنِ الظَّالِمُونَ الْيَوْمَ فِي ضَلَالٍ مُّبِينٍ
Transliteration: Asmiʿ bihim wa-abṣir yawma ya’tūnana. Lākini al-ẓālimūna al-yawma fī ḍalālin mubīn.
English: How clearly they will hear and see the Day they come to Us! But the wrongdoers today are in clear error.

39.
Arabic: وَأَنذِرْهُمْ يَوْمَ الْحَسْرَةِ إِذْ قُضِيَ الْأَمْرُ وَهُمْ فِي غَفْلَةٍ وَهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ
Transliteration: Wa-andhirhum yawma al-ḥasrati idh quḍiya al-amru wa-hum fī ghaflatin wa-hum lā yu’minūn.
English: And warn them, [O Muhammad], of the Day of Regret, when the matter will be concluded; and [yet] they are in [a state of] heedlessness, and they do not believe.

40.
Arabic: إِنَّا نَحْنُ نَرِثُ الْأَرْضَ وَمَنْ عَلَيْهَا وَإِلَيْنَا يُرْجَعُونَ
Transliteration: Innā naḥnu narithu al-arḍa wa-man ʿalayhā wa-ilaynā yurjaʿūn.
English: Indeed, it is We who will inherit the earth and whoever is on it, and to Us they will be returned.

41.
Arabic: وَاذْكُرْ فِي الْكِتَابِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ۚ إِنَّهُ كَانَ صِدِّيقًا نَّبِيًّا
Transliteration: Wa-dhkur fi al-kitābi ibrāhīma innahu kāna ṣiddīqan nabiyyā.
English: And mention in the Book [the story of] Abraham. Indeed, he was a man of truth and a prophet.

42.
Arabic: إِذْ قَالَ لِأَبِيهِ يَا أَبَتِ لِمَ تَعْبُدُ مَا لَا يَسْمَعُ وَلَا يُبْصِرُ وَلَا يُغْنِي عَنكَ شَيْئًا
Transliteration: Idh qāla li-abīhi yā abati lima taʿbudu mā lā yasmaʿu wa-lā yubṣiru wa-lā yughnī ʿanka shay’ā.
English: When he said to his father, “O my father, why do you worship that which does not hear and does not see and will not benefit you at all?

43.
Arabic: يَا أَبَتِ إِنِّي قَدْ جَاءَنِي مِنَ الْعِلْمِ مَا لَمْ يَأْتِكَ فَاتَّبِعْنِي أَهْدِكَ صِرَاطًا سَوِيًّا
Transliteration: Yā abati innī qad jā’anī mina al-ʿilmi mā lam ya’tika fa-ittabiʿnī ahdika ṣirāṭan sawiyyā.
English: O my father, indeed there has come to me of knowledge that which has not come to you, so follow me; I will guide you to an even path.

44.
Arabic: يَا أَبَتِ لَا تَعْبُدِ الشَّيْطَانَ ۖ إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ كَانَ لِلرَّحْمَٰنِ عَصِيًّا
Transliteration: Yā abati lā taʿbudi al-shayṭāna inna al-shayṭāna kāna lil-raḥmāni ʿaṣiyyā.
English: O my father, do not worship Satan. Indeed Satan has ever been, to the Most Merciful, disobedient.

45.
Arabic: يَا أَبَتِ إِنِّي أَخَافُ أَن يَمَسَّكَ عَذَابٌ مِّنَ الرَّحْمَٰنِ فَتَكُونَ لِلشَّيْطَانِ وَلِيًّا
Transliteration: Yā abati innī akhāfu an yamassaka ʿadhābun mina al-raḥmāni fa-takūna lil-shayṭāni waliyyā.
English: O my father, indeed I fear that there will touch you a punishment from the Most Merciful so you would become to Satan a companion [in Hellfire].”

46.
Arabic: قَالَ أَرَاغِبٌ أَنتَ عَنْ آلِهَتِي يَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ ۖ لَئِن لَّمْ تَنتَهِ لَأَرْجُمَنَّكَ ۖ وَاهْجُرْنِي مَلِيًّا
Transliteration: Qāla a-rāghibun anta ʿan ālihatī yā ibrāhīmu la-in lam tantahi la-arjumannaka wa-hjurnī maliyyā.
English: He said, “Have you no desire for my gods, O Abraham? If you do not desist, I will surely stone you. So avoid me a prolonged time.”

47.
Arabic: قَالَ سَلَامٌ عَلَيْكَ ۖ سَأَسْتَغْفِرُ لَكَ رَبِّي ۖ إِنَّهُ كَانَ بِي حَفِيًّا
Transliteration: Qāla salāmun ʿalayka sa-astaghfiru laka rabbī innahu kāna bī ḥafiyyā.
English: He said, “Peace be upon you. I will ask forgiveness for you of my Lord. Indeed, He is ever gracious to me.

48.
Arabic: وَأَعْتَزِلُكُمْ وَمَا تَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ وَأَدْعُو رَبِّي عَسَىٰ أَلَّا أَكُونَ بِدُعَاءِ رَبِّي شَقِيًّا
Transliteration: Wa-aʿtazilukum wa-mā tadʿūna min dūni llāhi wa-adʿū rabbī ʿasā allā akūna bi-duʿā’i rabbī shaqiyyā.
English: And I will leave you and those you invoke other than Allah and will invoke my Lord. I expect that I will not be in invocation to my Lord unhappy.”

49.
Arabic: فَلَمَّا اعْتَزَلَهُمْ وَمَا يَعْبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ وَهَبْنَا لَهُ إِسْحَاقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ ۖ وَكُلًّا جَعَلْنَا نَبِيًّا
Transliteration: Fa-lammā iʿtazalahum wa-mā yaʿbudūna min dūni llāhi wahabnā lahu isḥāqa wa-yaʿqūba wa-kullan jaʿalnā nabiyyā.
English: And when he had left them and those they worshipped other than Allah, We gave him Isaac and Jacob, and each [of them] We made a prophet.

50.
Arabic: وَوَهَبْنَا لَهُم مِّن رَّحْمَتِنَا وَجَعَلْنَا لَهُمْ لِسَانَ صِدْقٍ عَلِيًّا
Transliteration: Wa-wahabnā lahum min raḥmatinā wa-jaʿalnā lahum lisāna ṣidqin ʿaliyyā.
English: And We gave them of Our mercy, and We made for them a reputation of high honor.

51.
Arabic: وَاذْكُرْ فِي الْكِتَابِ مُوسَىٰ ۖ إِنَّهُ كَانَ مُخْلَصًا وَكَانَ رَسُولًا نَّبِيًّا
Transliteration: Wa-dhkur fi al-kitābi mūsā innahu kāna mukhlaṣan wa-kāna rasūlan nabiyyā.
English: And mention in the Book [the story of] Moses. Indeed, he was chosen, and he was a messenger and a prophet.

52.
Arabic: وَنَادَيْنَاهُ مِن جَانِبِ الطُّورِ الْأَيْمَنِ وَقَرَّبْنَاهُ نَجِيًّا
Transliteration: Wa-nādaynāhu min jānibi al-ṭūri al-aymani wa-qarrabnāhu najiyyā.
English: And We called him from the side of the mount at [his] right and brought him near, confiding [to him].

53.
Arabic: وَوَهَبْنَا لَهُ مِن رَّحْمَتِنَا أَخَاهُ هَارُونَ نَبِيًّا
Transliteration: Wa-wahabnā lahu min raḥmatinā akhāhu hārūna nabiyyā.
English: And We gave him out of Our mercy his brother Aaron as a prophet.

54.
Arabic: وَاذْكُرْ فِي الْكِتَابِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ۚ إِنَّهُ كَانَ صَادِقَ الْوَعْدِ وَكَانَ رَسُولًا نَّبِيًّا
Transliteration: Wa-dhkur fi al-kitābi ismāʿīla innahu kāna ṣādiqa al-waʿdi wa-kāna rasūlan nabiyyā.
English: And mention in the Book [the story of] Ishmael. Indeed, he was true to his promise, and he was a messenger and a prophet.

55.
Arabic: وَكَانَ يَأْمُرُ أَهْلَهُ بِالصَّلَاةِ وَالزَّكَاةِ وَكَانَ عِندَ رَبِّهِ مَرْضِيًّا
Transliteration: Wa-kāna ya’muru ahlahu bi-al-ṣalāti wa-al-zakāti wa-kāna ʿinda rabbihi marḍiyyā.
English: And he used to enjoin on his people prayer and zakah and was to his Lord pleasing.

56.
Arabic: وَاذْكُرْ فِي الْكِتَابِ إِدْرِيسَ ۚ إِنَّهُ كَانَ صِدِّيقًا نَّبِيًّا
Transliteration: Wa-dhkur fi al-kitābi idrīsa innahu kāna ṣiddīqan nabiyyā.
English: And mention in the Book [the story of] Enoch. Indeed, he was a man of truth and a prophet.

57.
Arabic: وَرَفَعْنَاهُ مَكَانًا عَلِيًّا
Transliteration: Wa-rafaʿnāhu makānan ʿaliyyā.
English: And We raised him to a high station.

58.
Arabic: أُولَٰئِكَ الَّذِينَ أَنْعَمَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِم مِّنَ النَّبِيِّينَ مِن ذُرِّيَّةِ آدَمَ وَمِمَّنْ حَمَلْنَا مَعَ نُوحٍ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّةِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَإِسْرَائِيلَ وَمِمَّنْ هَدَيْنَا وَاجْتَبَيْنَا ۚ إِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِمْ آيَاتُ الرَّحْمَٰنِ خَرُّوا سُجَّدًا وَبُكِيًّا
Transliteration: Ulā’ika alladhīna anʿama llāhu ʿalayhim mina al-nabiyyīna min dhurriyyati ādama wa-mimman ḥamalnā maʿa nūḥin wa-min dhurriyyati ibrāhīma wa-isrā’īla wa-mimman hadaynā wa-jtabaynā. Idhā tutlā ʿalayhim āyātu al-raḥmāni kharru sujjadan wa-bukiyyā.
English: Those were the ones upon whom Allah bestowed favor from among the prophets of the descendants of Adam and of those We carried [in the ship] with Noah, and of the descendants of Abraham and Israel, and of those whom We guided and chose. When the verses of the Most Merciful were recited to them, they fell in prostration and weeping.

59.
Arabic: فَخَلَفَ مِن بَعْدِهِمْ خَلْفٌ أَضَاعُوا الصَّلَاةَ وَاتَّبَعُوا الشَّهَوَاتِ ۖ فَسَوْفَ يَلْقَوْنَ غَيًّا
Transliteration: Fa-khalafa min baʿdihim khalfun aḍāʿū al-ṣalāta wa-ittabaʿū al-shahawāti fa-sawfa yalqawna ghayyā.
English: But there came after them successors who neglected prayer and pursued desires; so they are going to meet evil.

60.
Arabic: إِلَّا مَن تَابَ وَآمَنَ وَعَمِلَ صَالِحًا فَأُولَٰئِكَ يَدْخُلُونَ الْجَنَّةَ وَلَا يُظْلَمُونَ شَيْئًا
Transliteration: Illā man tāba wa-āmana wa-ʿamila ṣāliḥan fa-ulā’ika yadkhulūna al-jannata wa-lā yuẓlamūna shay’ā.
English: Except those who repent, believe, and do righteous deeds; for those will enter Paradise and will not be wronged at all.

61.
Arabic: جَنَّاتِ عَدْنٍ الَّتِي وَعَدَ الرَّحْمَٰنُ عِبَادَهُ بِالْغَيْبِ ۚ إِنَّهُ كَانَ وَعْدُهُ مَأْتِيًّا
Transliteration: Jannāti ʿadnin allatī waʿada al-raḥmānu ʿibādahu bi-al-ghaybi innahu kāna waʿduhu ma’tiyyā.
English: [Therein are] gardens of perpetual residence which the Most Merciful has promised His servants in the unseen. Indeed, His promise has ever been forthcoming.

62.
Arabic: لَّا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًا إِلَّا سَلَامًا ۖ وَلَهُمْ رِزْقُهُمْ فِيهَا بُكْرَةً وَعَشِيًّا
Transliteration: Lā yasmaʿūna fīhā laghwan illā salāman wa-lahum rizquhum fīhā bukratan wa-ʿashiyyā.
English: They will not hear therein any ill speech – only [greetings of] peace – and they will have their provision therein morning and afternoon.

63.
Arabic: تِلْكَ الْجَنَّةُ الَّتِي نُورِثُ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا مَن كَانَ تَقِيًّا
Transliteration: Tilka al-jannatu allatī nūrithu min ʿibādinā man kāna taqiyyā.
English: That is Paradise, which We give as inheritance to those of Our servants who were fearing of Allah.

64.
Arabic: وَمَا نَتَنَزَّلُ إِلَّا بِأَمْرِ رَبِّكَ ۖ لَهُ مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِينَا وَمَا خَلْفَنَا وَمَا بَيْنَ ذَٰلِكَ ۚ وَمَا كَانَ رَبُّكَ نَسِيًّا
Transliteration: Wa-mā natanazzalu illā bi-amri rabbika lahu mā bayna aydīnā wa-mā khalfanā wa-mā bayna dhālika wa-mā kāna rabbuka nasiyyā.
English: [Gabriel said], “And we [angels] do not descend except by the command of your Lord. To Him belongs that which is before us and that which is behind us and what is in between. And never is your Lord forgetful –

65.
Arabic: رَّبُّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا فَاعْبُدْهُ وَاصْطَبِرْ لِعِبَادَتِهِ ۚ هَلْ تَعْلَمُ لَهُ سَمِيًّا
Transliteration: Rabbu al-samāwāti wa-al-arḍi wa-mā baynahumā fa-ʿbud’hu wa-iṣṭabir li-ʿibādatihi hal taʿlamu lahu samiyyā.
English: Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them – so worship Him and be patient for His worship. Do you know of any similarity to Him?”

66.
Arabic: وَيَقُولُ الْإِنسَانُ أَإِذَا مَا مِتُّ لَسَوْفَ أُخْرَجُ حَيًّا
Transliteration: Wa-yaqūlu al-insānu a-idhā mā mittu la-sawfa ukhraju ḥayyā.
English: And man says, “When I die, will I really be brought forth alive?”

67.
Arabic: أَوَلَا يَذْكُرُ الْإِنسَانُ أَنَّا خَلَقْنَاهُ مِن قَبْلُ وَلَمْ يَكُ شَيْئًا
Transliteration: Awa-lā yadhkuru al-insānu annā khalaqnāhu min qablu wa-lam yaku shay’ā.
English: Does man not remember that We created him before, while he was nothing?

68.
Arabic: فَوَرَبِّكَ لَنَحْشُرَنَّهُمْ وَالشَّيَاطِينَ ثُمَّ لَنُحْضِرَنَّهُمْ حَوْلَ جَهَنَّمَ جِثِيًّا
Transliteration: Fa-wa-rabbika la-naḥshurannahum wa-al-shayāṭīna thumma la-nuḥḍirannahum ḥawla jahannama jithiyyā.
English: So by your Lord, We will surely gather them and the devils; then We will bring them around Hell on their knees.

69.
Arabic: ثُمَّ لَنَنزِعَنَّ مِن كُلِّ شِيعَةٍ أَيُّهُمْ أَشَدُّ عَلَى الرَّحْمَٰنِ عِتِيًّا
Transliteration: Thumma la-nanziʿanna min kulli shīʿatin ayyuhum ashaddū ʿalā al-raḥmāni ʿitiyyā.
English: Then We will surely extract from every sect those of them who were worst against the Most Merciful in insolence.

70.
Arabic: ثُمَّ لَنَحْنُ أَعْلَمُ بِالَّذِينَ هُمْ أَوْلَىٰ بِهَا صِلِيًّا
Transliteration: Thumma la-naḥnu aʿlamu bi-alladhīna hum awlā bihā ṣiliyyā.
English: Then We are most knowing of those most worthy of burning therein.

71.
Arabic: وَإِن مِّنكُمْ إِلَّا وَارِدُهَا ۚ كَانَ عَلَىٰ رَبِّكَ حَتْمًا مَّقْضِيًّا
Transliteration: Wa-in minkum illā wāriduhā. Kāna ʿalā rabbika ḥatman maqḍiyyā.
English: And there is none of you except he will pass over it [Hell] – [this] is upon your Lord an inevitability decreed.

72.
Arabic: ثُمَّ نُنَجِّي الَّذِينَ اتَّقَوا وَّنَذَرُ الظَّالِمِينَ فِيهَا جِثِيًّا
Transliteration: Thumma nunajjī alladhīna ittaqaw wa-nadharu al-ẓālimīna fīhā jithiyyā.
English: Then We will save those who feared Allah and leave the wrongdoers within it, on their knees.

73.
Arabic: وَإِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِمْ آيَاتُنَا بَيِّنَاتٍ قَالَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لِلَّذِينَ آمَنُوا أَيُّ الْفَرِيقَيْنِ خَيْرٌ مَّقَامًا وَأَحْسَنُ نَدِيًّا
Transliteration: Wa-idhā tutlā ʿalayhim āyātunā bayyinātin qāla alladhīna kafarū lilladhīna āmanū ayyu al-farīqayni khayrun maqāman wa-aḥsanu nadiyyā.
English: And when Our verses are recited to them as clear evidences, those who disbelieve say to those who believe, “Which of the two parties is best in position and best in company?”

74.
Arabic: وَكَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا قَبْلَهُم مِّن قَرْنٍ هُمْ أَحْسَنُ أَثَاثًا وَرِئْيًا
Transliteration: Wa-kam ahlaknā qablahum min qarnin hum aḥsanu athāthan wa-ri’yā.
English: And how many a generation have We destroyed before them who were better in possessions and [outward] appearance?

75.
Arabic: قُلْ مَن كَانَ فِي الضَّلَالَةِ فَلْيَمْدُدْ لَهُ الرَّحْمَٰنُ مَدًّا ۚ حَتَّىٰ إِذَا رَأَوْا مَا يُوعَدُونَ إِمَّا الْعَذَابَ وَإِمَّا السَّاعَةَ فَسَيَعْلَمُونَ مَنْ هُوَ شَرٌّ مَّكَانًا وَأَضْعَفُ جُندًا
Transliteration: Qul man kāna fī al-ḍalālati fa-l-yamdud lahu al-raḥmānu maddā. Ḥattā idhā ra’aw mā yūʿadūna immā al-ʿadhāba wa-immā al-sāʿata fa-sayaʿlamūna man huwa sharrun makānan wa-aḍʿafu jundā.
English: Say, “Whoever is in error – let the Most Merciful extend [time] to him until, when they see that which they were promised – either punishment [in this world] or the Hour – they will come to know who is worst in position and weaker in soldiers.”

76.
Arabic: وَيَزِيدُ اللَّهُ الَّذِينَ اهْتَدَوْا هُدًى ۗ وَالْبَاقِيَاتُ الصَّالِحَاتُ خَيْرٌ عِندَ رَبِّكَ ثَوَابًا وَخَيْرٌ مَّرَدًّا
Transliteration: Wa-yazīdu llāhu alladhīna ihtadaw hudan. Wa-al-bāqiyātu al-ṣāliḥātu khayrun ʿinda rabbika thawāban wa-khayrun maraddā.
English: And Allah increases those who were guided, in guidance. And the enduring good deeds are better to your Lord for reward and better for recourse.

77.
Arabic: أَفَرَأَيْتَ الَّذِي كَفَرَ بِآيَاتِنَا وَقَالَ لَأُوتَيَنَّ مَالًا وَوَلَدًا
Transliteration: A-fara’ayta alladhī kafara bi-āyātinā wa-qāla la-ūtayanna mālan wa-waladā.
English: Then have you seen he who disbelieved in Our verses and said, “I will surely be given wealth and children [in the Hereafter]?”

78.
Arabic: أَاطَّلَعَ الْغَيْبَ أَمِ اتَّخَذَ عِندَ الرَّحْمَٰنِ عَهْدًا
Transliteration: A-ṭṭalaʿa al-ghayba ami ittakhadha ʿinda al-raḥmāni ʿahdā.
English: Has he looked into the unseen, or has he taken from the Most Merciful a promise?

79.
Arabic: كَلَّا ۚ سَنَكْتُبُ مَا يَقُولُ وَنَمُدُّ لَهُ مِنَ الْعَذَابِ مَدًّا
Transliteration: Kallā. Sa-naktubu mā yaqūlu wa-namuddu lahu mina al-ʿadhābi maddā.
English: No! We will record what he says and extend for him from the punishment extensively.

80.
Arabic: وَنَرِثُهُ مَا يَقُولُ وَيَأْتِينَا فَرْدًا
Transliteration: Wa-narithuhu mā yaqūlu wa-ya’tīnā fardā.
English: And We will inherit him [in] what he says, and he will come to Us alone.

81.
Arabic: وَاتَّخَذُوا مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ آلِهَةً لِّيَكُونُوا لَهُمْ عِزًّا
Transliteration: Wa-ittakhadhū min dūni llāhi ālihatan li-yakūnū lahum ʿizzā.
English: And they have taken besides Allah [other] gods that they would be for them [a source of] honor.

82.
Arabic: كَلَّا ۚ سَيَكْفُرُونَ بِعِبَادَتِهِمْ وَيَكُونُونَ عَلَيْهِمْ ضِدًّا
Transliteration: Kallā. Sa-yakfurūna bi-ʿibādatihim wa-yakūnūna ʿalayhim ḍiddā.
English: No! Those “gods” will deny their worship of them and will be against them opponents [on the Day of Judgement].

83.
Arabic: أَلَمْ تَرَ أَنَّا أَرْسَلْنَا الشَّيَاطِينَ عَلَى الْكَافِرِينَ تَؤُزُّهُمْ أَزًّا
Transliteration: Alam tara annā arsalnā al-shayāṭīna ʿalā al-kāfirīna ta’uzzuhum azzā.
English: Do you not see that We have sent the devils upon the disbelievers, inciting them with [constant] incitement?

84.
Arabic: فَلَا تَعْجَلْ عَلَيْهِمْ ۖ إِنَّمَا نَعُدُّ لَهُمْ عَدًّا
Transliteration: Fa-lā taʿjal ʿalayhim. Innamā naʿuddu lahum ʿaddā.
English: So be not impatient over them. We only count out to them a [limited] number.

85.
Arabic: يَوْمَ نَحْشُرُ الْمُتَّقِينَ إِلَى الرَّحْمَٰنِ وَفْدًا
Transliteration: Yawma naḥshuru al-muttaqīna ilā al-raḥmāni wafdā.
English: On the Day We will gather the righteous to the Most Merciful as a delegation.

86.
Arabic: وَنَسُوقُ الْمُجْرِمِينَ إِلَىٰ جَهَنَّمَ وِرْدًا
Transliteration: Wa-nasūqu al-mujrimīna ilā jahannama wirdā.
English: And drive the criminals to Hell as a thirsty herd.

87.
Arabic: لَّا يَمْلِكُونَ الشَّفَاعَةَ إِلَّا مَنِ اتَّخَذَ عِندَ الرَّحْمَٰنِ عَهْدًا
Transliteration: Lā yamlikūna al-shafāʿata illā mani ittakhadha ʿinda al-raḥmāni ʿahdā.
English: None will have [power of] intercession except he who had taken from the Most Merciful a covenant.

88.
Arabic: وَقَالُوا اتَّخَذَ الرَّحْمَٰنُ وَلَدًا
Transliteration: Wa-qālū ittakhadha al-raḥmānu waladā.
English: And they say, “The Most Merciful has taken a son.”

89.
Arabic: لَّقَدْ جِئْتُمْ شَيْئًا إِدًّا
Transliteration: Laqad ji’tum shay’an iddā.
English: You have done an atrocious thing.

90.
Arabic: تَكَادُ السَّمَاوَاتُ يَتَفَطَّرْنَ مِنْهُ وَتَنشَقُّ الْأَرْضُ وَتَخِرُّ الْجِبَالُ هَدًّا
Transliteration: Takādu al-samāwātu yatafaṭṭarna minhu wa-tanshaqqu al-arḍu wa-takhirru al-jibālu haddā.
English: The heavens almost rupture therefrom and the earth splits open and the mountains collapse in devastation.

91.
Arabic: أَن دَعَوْا لِلرَّحْمَٰنِ وَلَدًا
Transliteration: An daʿaw lil-raḥmāni waladā.
English: That they attribute to the Most Merciful a son.

92.
Arabic: وَمَا يَنبَغِي لِلرَّحْمَٰنِ أَن يَتَّخِذَ وَلَدًا
Transliteration: Wa-mā yanbaghī lil-raḥmāni an yattakhidha waladā.
English: And it is not appropriate for the Most Merciful that He should take a son.

93.
Arabic: إِن كُلُّ مَن فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ إِلَّا آتِي الرَّحْمَٰنِ عَبْدًا
Transliteration: In kullu man fī al-samāwāti wa-al-arḍi illā ātī al-raḥmāni ʿabdā.
English: There is no one in the heavens and earth but that he comes to the Most Merciful as a servant.

94.
Arabic: لَّقَدْ أَحْصَاهُمْ وَعَدَّهُمْ عَدًّا
Transliteration: Laqad aḥṣāhum wa-ʿaddahum ʿaddā.
English: He has enumerated them and counted them a [full] counting.

95.
Arabic: وَكُلُّهُمْ آتِيهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ فَرْدًا
Transliteration: Wa-kulluhum ātīhi yawma al-qiyāmati fardā.
English: And all of them will come to Him on the Day of Resurrection alone.

96.
Arabic: إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ سَيَجْعَلُ لَهُمُ الرَّحْمَٰنُ وُدًّا
Transliteration: Inna alladhīna āmanū wa-ʿamilū al-ṣāliḥāti sa-yajʿalu lahumu al-raḥmānu wuddā.
English: Indeed, those who have believed and done righteous deeds – the Most Merciful will appoint for them affection.

97.
Arabic: فَإِنَّمَا يَسَّرْنَاهُ بِلِسَانِكَ لِتُبَشِّرَ بِهِ الْمُتَّقِينَ وَتُنذِرَ بِهِ قَوْمًا لُّدًّا
Transliteration: Fa-innamā yassarnāhu bi-lisānika li-tubashshira bihi al-muttaqīna wa-tundhira bihi qawman luddā.
English: So We have only made it [i.e., the Quran] easy in your tongue [O Muhammad] that you may give good tidings thereby to the righteous and warn thereby a hostile people.

98.
Arabic: وَكَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا قَبْلَهُم مِّن قَرْنٍ هَلْ تُحِسُّ مِنْهُم مِّنْ أَحَدٍ أَوْ تَسْمَعُ لَهُمْ رِكْزًا
Transliteration: Wa-kam ahlaknā qablahum min qarnin hal tuḥissu minhum min aḥadin aw tasmaʿu lahum rikzā.
English: And how many a generation before them have We destroyed? Do you perceive of them anyone or hear from them a sound?

Meaning and Importance of Surah Maryam

Surah Maryam highlights themes of divine mercy, miracles, and unwavering faith. It opens with the story of Prophet Zakariyya (AS) and his dua for a righteous child, followed by the birth of Prophet Yahya (AS). The Surah then recounts the miraculous conception and birth of Prophet Isa (AS) without a father a direct command of Allah.

It emphasizes the honor of Maryam (AS), her purity, and her elevated status among women. The Surah also addresses the false claims against Isa (AS) and confirms his status as a noble prophet, not the son of God.
Towards the end, Surah Maryam warns the disbelievers about the Day of Judgment, while giving hope and assurance to the believers.
