Surah Al Fath

Surah Al-Fath (Surah Fatah) is the 48th chapter of the Holy Quran, revealed in Madinah and consisting of 29 verses spread across 4 Ruku. Its name, “Al-Fath,” means “The Victory” or “The Clear Conquest,” and the surah was revealed after the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah, an event the Quran itself describes as a manifest triumph for the Muslims, even though it initially appeared to be a setback. Surah Fatah opens with the glad tidings of forgiveness and divine favor upon the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, and goes on to praise the sincere companions who pledged allegiance to him beneath the tree at Hudaybiyyah — a moment known as Bay’at al-Ridwan. The surah also addresses the hypocrites who avoided the journey, affirms Allah’s promise of victory and expansion of Islam, and closes with a powerful description of the Prophet ﷺ and his companions as compassionate with one another yet firm against disbelief. Muslims read Surah Fatah for its themes of patience, divine promise, and the wisdom of finding victory even within apparent hardship.
