One of the greatest honors of Shab-e-Qadr (Laylatul Qadr). The Night of Power is that an entire Surah in the Holy Quran is dedicated to it. Allah (SWT) says in Surah Al-Qadr (97:1-5)
“Indeed, We sent the Quran down during the Night of Decree. And what can make you know what the Night of Decree is? The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months. The angels and the Spirit [Jibreel] descend therein by permission of their Lord for every matter. Peace it is until the emergence of dawn.”
Meaning of “Laylatul Qadr (Shab-e-Qadr)”
The word “Qadr” means status, honor, and decree. This night is named “Laylatul Qadr” because of its immense spiritual significance—it is a night when:
- The Quran was first revealed.
- Angels descend with divine blessings.
- Destinies are decreed for the coming year.
- Worship on this night is better than 1,000 months (83+ years) of worship.
When is Shab-e-Qadr?
The exact night is hidden, but the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) encouraged Muslims to seek it in the last ten nights of Ramadan, particularly on the odd-numbered nights (21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th, or 29th).
The 27th Night of Ramadan
Many scholars believe that the 27th night is the most likely night of Qadr. Hazrat Ameer Muawiya (R.A) narrated:
“The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: ‘Shab-e-Qadr is the twenty-seventh night of Ramadan.'” (Abu Dawood, Vol. 1, Page 197)
