Full Surah Al-Jinn – Arabic, Transliteration & English Translation
Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim
Ayah 1 Arabic: قُلْ أُوحِيَ إِلَيَّ أَنَّهُ اسْتَمَعَ نَفَرٌ مِّنَ الْجِنِّ فَقَالُوا إِنَّا سَمِعْنَا قُرْآنًا عَجَبًا Transliteration: Qul oohiya ilayya annahu istama’a nafarun mina aljinni faqaloo inna sami’na qur’anan ’ajaban English: Say, [O Muhammad], “It has been revealed to me that a company of the jinn listened and said, ‘Indeed, we have heard an amazing Qur’an.’”
Ayah 2 Arabic: يَهْدِي إِلَى الرُّشْدِ فَآمَنَّا بِهِ ۖ وَلَن نُّشْرِكَ بِرَبِّنَا أَحَدًا Transliteration: Yahdee ila arrushdi faamanna bihi walan nushrika birabbina ahadan English: It guides to the right course, and we have believed in it. And we will never associate with our Lord anyone.”
Ayah 3 Arabic: وَأَنَّهُ تَعَالَىٰ جَدُّ رَبِّنَا مَا اتَّخَذَ صَاحِبَةً وَلَا وَلَدًا Transliteration: Wa-annahu ta’ala jaddu rabbina ma ittakhatha sahibatan wala waladan English: And [it teaches] that exalted is the nobleness of our Lord; He has not taken a wife or a son.”
Ayah 4 Arabic: وَأَنَّهُ كَانَ يَقُولُ سَفِيهُنَا عَلَى اللَّهِ شَطَطًا Transliteration: Wa-annahu kana yaqoolu safeehuna ’ala Allahi shatatan English: And that the foolish among us used to speak against Allah an excessive transgression.”
Ayah 5 Arabic: وَأَنَّا ظَنَنَّا أَن لَّن تَقُولَ الْإِنسُ وَالْجِنُّ عَلَى اللَّهِ كَذِبًا Transliteration: Waanna thananna an lan taqoola alinsu waljinnu ’ala Allahi kathiban English: And we had thought that the humans and the jinn would never speak about Allah a lie.”
Ayah 6 Arabic: وَأَنَّهُ كَانَ رِجَالٌ مِّنَ الْإِنسِ يَعُوذُونَ بِرِجَالٍ مِّنَ الْجِنِّ فَزَادُوهُمْ رَهَقًا Transliteration: Wa-annahu kana rijalun mina alinsi ya’oothoona birijalin mina aljinni fazadoohum rahaqan English: And there were men from mankind who sought refuge in men from the jinn, so they [only] increased them in burden.”
Ayah 7 Arabic: وَأَنَّهُمْ ظَنُّوا كَمَا ظَنَنتُمْ أَن لَّن يَبْعَثَ اللَّهُ أَحَدًا Transliteration: Wa-annahum thannoo kama thanantum an lan yab’atha Allahu ahadan English: And they had thought, as you thought, that Allah would never send anyone [as a messenger].”
Ayah 8 Arabic: وَأَنَّا لَمَسْنَا السَّمَاءَ فَوَجَدْنَاهَا مُلِئَتْ حَرَسًا شَدِيدًا وَشُهُبًا Transliteration: Waanna lamasna assama’a fawajadnaha muli’at harasan shadeedan washuhuban English: And we have sought to reach heaven but found it filled with powerful guards and burning flames.”
Ayah 9 Arabic: وَأَنَّا كُنَّا نَقْعُدُ مِنْهَا مَقَاعِدَ لِلسَّمْعِ ۖ فَمَن يَسْتَمِعِ الْآنَ يَجِدْ لَهُ شِهَابًا رَّصَدًا Transliteration: Waanna kunna naq’udu minha maqa’ida lissam’i faman yastami’i al-ana yajid lahu shihaban rasadan English: And we used to sit there in positions to listen. But whoever listens now will find a burning flame waiting for him.”
Ayah 10 Arabic: وَأَنَّا لَا نَدْرِي أَشَرٌّ أُرِيدَ بِمَن فِي الْأَرْضِ أَمْ أَرَادَ بِهِمْ رَبُّهُمْ رَشَدًا Transliteration: Waanna la nadree asharrrun oreeda biman fee al-ardi am arada bihim rabbuhum rashadan English: And we do not know whether evil is intended for those on earth or whether their Lord intends for them right guidance.”
Ayah 11 Arabic: وَأَنَّا مِنَّا الصَّالِحُونَ وَمِنَّا دُونَ ذَٰلِكَ ۖ كُنَّا طَرَائِقَ قِدَدًا Transliteration: Waanna minna assalihoona waminna doona thalika kunna tara-iqa qidadan English: And among us are the righteous, and among us are [others] less than that. We were of divided ways.”
Ayah 12 Arabic: وَأَنَّا ظَنَنَّا أَن لَّن نَّعْجِزَ اللَّهَ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلَن نَّعْجِزَهُ هَرَبًا Transliteration: Waanna thananna an lan nu’jiza Allaha fee al-ardi walan nu’jizahu haraban English: And we have become certain that we will never cause failure to Allah upon earth, nor can we escape Him by flight.”
Ayah 13 Arabic: وَأَنَّا لَمَّا سَمِعْنَا الْهُدَىٰ آمَنَّا بِهِ ۖ فَمَن يُؤْمِن بِرَبِّهِ فَلَا يَخَافُ بَخْسًا وَلَا رَهَقًا Transliteration: Waanna lamma sami’na alhuda amanna bihi faman yu’min birabbihi fala yakhafoo bakhsan wala rahaqan English: And when we heard the guidance, we believed in it. And whoever believes in his Lord will not fear deprivation or burden.”
Ayah 14 Arabic: وَأَنَّا مِنَّا الْمُسْلِمُونَ وَمِنَّا الْقَاسِطُونَ ۖ فَمَنْ أَسْلَمَ فَأُولَٰئِكَ تَحَرَّوْا رَشَدًا Transliteration: Waanna minna almuslimoona waminna alqasitoona faman aslama faola-ika taharraw rashadan English: And among us are Muslims [in submission to Allah], and among us are the unjust. And whoever has become Muslim — those have sought out the right course.”
Ayah 15 Arabic: وَأَمَّا الْقَاسِطُونَ فَكَانُوا لِجَهَنَّمَ حَطَبًا Transliteration: Waamma alqasitoona fakanoo lijahannama hataban English: But as for the unjust, they will be, for Hell, firewood.”
Ayah 16 Arabic: وَأَن لَّوِ اسْتَقَامُوا عَلَى الطَّرِيقَةِ لَأَسْقَيْنَاهُم مَّاءً غَدَقًا Transliteration: Wa-an lawi istaqamoo ’ala attareeqati laasqaynahum maan ghadaqan English: And [Allah revealed] that if they had remained straight on the way, We would have given them water in abundance.”
Ayah 17 Arabic: لِّنَفْتِنَهُمْ فِيهِ ۖ وَمَن يُعْرِضْ عَن ذِكْرِ رَبِّهِ يَسْلُكْهُ عَذَابًا صَعَدًا Transliteration: Linaftinahum feehi waman yu’rid ’an thikri rabbihi yasluk-hu ’athaban sa’adan English: As a trial for them. And whoever turns away from the remembrance of his Lord — He will put him into arduous punishment.”
Ayah 18 Arabic: وَأَنَّ الْمَسَاجِدَ لِلَّهِ فَلَا تَدْعُوا مَعَ اللَّهِ أَحَدًا Transliteration: Waanna almasajida lillahi fala tad’oo ma’a Allahi ahadan English: And [He revealed] that the mosques are for Allah, so do not invoke with Allah anyone.”
Ayah 19 Arabic: وَأَنَّهُ لَمَّا قَامَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ يَدْعُوهُ كَادُوا يَكُونُونَ عَلَيْهِ لِبَدًا Transliteration: Wa-annahu lamma qama ’abdu Allahi yad’oohu kadoo yakoonoona ’alayhi libadan English: And that when the servant of Allah stood up supplicating Him, they were about to fall upon him in dense masses.”
Ayah 20 Arabic: قُلْ إِنَّمَا أَدْعُو رَبِّي وَلَا أُشْرِكُ بِهِ أَحَدًا Transliteration: Qul innama ad’oo rabbee wala ushriku bihi ahadan English: Say, “I only invoke my Lord and do not associate anyone with Him.”
Ayah 21 Arabic: قُلْ إِنِّي لَا أَمْلِكُ لَكُمْ ضَرًّا وَلَا رَشَدًا Transliteration: Qul innee la amliku lakum darran wala rashadan English: Say, “Indeed, I do not possess for you [the power of] harm or right direction.”
Ayah 22 Arabic: قُلْ إِنِّي لَن يُجِيرَنِي مِنَ اللَّهِ أَحَدٌ وَلَنْ أَجِدَ مِن دُونِهِ مُلْتَحَدًا Transliteration: Qul innee lan yujeeranee mina Allahi ahadun walan ajida min doonihi multahadan English: Say, “Indeed, there will never protect me from Allah anyone, and I will never find in other than Him any refuge.”
Ayah 23 Arabic: إِلَّا بَلَاغًا مِّنَ اللَّهِ وَرِسَالَاتِهِ ۚ وَمَن يَعْصِ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ فَإِنَّ لَهُ نَارَ جَهَنَّمَ خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا أَبَدًا Transliteration: Illa balaghan mina Allahi warisalatihi waman ya’si Allaha warasoolahu fa-inna lahu nara jahannama khalideena feeha abadan English: [I only follow] the revelation from Allah and His messages. And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger — then indeed, for him is the fire of Hell; they will abide therein forever.”
Ayah 24 Arabic: حَتَّىٰ إِذَا رَأَوْا مَا يُوعَدُونَ فَسَيَعْلَمُونَ مَنْ أَضْعَفُ نَاصِرًا وَأَقَلُّ عَدَدًا Transliteration: Hatta itha ra’aw ma yoo’adoona fasaya’lamoona man ad’afu nasiran wa-aqallu ’adadan English: Until, when they see that which they are promised, then they will know who is weaker in helpers and less in number.”
Ayah 25 Arabic: قُلْ إِنْ أَدْرِي أَقَرِيبٌ مَّا تُوعَدُونَ أَمْ يَجْعَلُ لَهُ رَبِّي أَمَدًا Transliteration: Qul in adree aqareebun ma too’adoona am yaj’alu lahu rabbee amadan English: Say, “I do not know if what you are promised is near or if my Lord will grant for it a [long] period.”
Ayah 26 Arabic: عَالِمُ الْغَيْبِ فَلَا يُظْهِرُ عَلَىٰ غَيْبِهِ أَحَدًا Transliteration: ’Alimu alghaybi fala yuthhiru ’ala ghaybihi ahadan English: [He is] Knower of the unseen, and He does not make anyone aware of His unseen.”
Ayah 27 Arabic: إِلَّا مَنِ ارْتَضَىٰ مِن رَّسُولٍ فَإِنَّهُ يَسْلُكُ مِن بَيْنِ يَدَيْهِ وَمِنْ خَلْفِهِ رَصَدًا Transliteration: Illa mani irtada min rasoolin fa-innahu yasluku min bayni yadayhi wamin khalfihi rasadan English: Except to a messenger He has approved, and indeed, He sends before him and behind him observers.”
Ayah 28 Arabic: لِّيَعْلَمَ أَن قَدْ أَبْلَغُوا رِسَالَاتِ رَبِّهِمْ وَأَحَاطَ بِمَا لَدَيْهِمْ وَأَحْصَىٰ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ عَدَدًا Transliteration: Liya’lama an qad ablaghoo risalati rabbihim waahata bima ladayhim waahsa kulla shay’in ’adadan English: That he may know that they have conveyed the messages of their Lord; and He has encompassed whatever is with them and has enumerated everything by number.
History and Background of Surah Jinn
Surah Al-Jinn is a Makki Surah revealed in Makkah during the early period of Prophethood. It was revealed when a group of Jinn heard the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ reciting the Quran during prayer. They were deeply moved, believed in the message, and returned to their people as warners. This Surah was revealed to inform the Prophet ﷺ and the believers about this unseen event and to emphasize that the Quran is a guidance for both humans and Jinn.
