Surah Al Muzzammil

Surah Al-Muzzammil opens with Allah addressing the Prophet ﷺ as “O you who wraps himself [in a cloak]”. The Prophet is commanded to stand in prayer during the night to spiritually strengthen himself for the challenges of delivering the divine message. It emphasizes the importance of Qiyam-ul-Lail (night prayer), reciting the Quran, and relying on Allah’s support.
The Surah also describes the weight of revelation, the importance of patience against mockery, and the forgiveness and reward that comes with sincerity and discipline. The final verse (possibly Madinan) relaxes the command of night prayer due to the challenges faced by the Muslim community.
