Surah Al Alaq
Surah Al-Alaq begins with the divine command to read:
“Read in the name of your Lord who created.”
(Al-Alaq 96:1)
The first five verses emphasize knowledge, creation, and the use of the pen—highlighting how Allah honored mankind with intellect and education.
The rest of the Surah addresses human arrogance, particularly when one becomes self-sufficient and forgets their dependence on Allah. It also warns those who hinder others from worship, citing a specific example of someone who tried to stop the Prophet ﷺ from praying.
The Surah ends with a powerful call to submit in sajdah (prostration) and draw closer to Allah.
