Full Surah Adiyat – Arabic, Transliteration & English Translation

Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim

Ayah 1 Arabic: وَالْعَادِيَاتِ ضَبْحًا Transliteration: Wal-‘adiyati dabha English: By the racing chargers, panting and neighing.

Ayah 2 Arabic: فَالْمُورِيَاتِ قَدْحًا Transliteration: Fal-mooriyati qadha English: Striking sparks of fire.

Ayah 3 Arabic: فَالْغَارِيَاتِ سُبْحًا Transliteration: Fal-ghariyati subha English: And the raiders at dawn.

Ayah 4 Arabic: فَأَثَرْنَ بِهِ نَقْعًا Transliteration: Fa-atharna bihi naq’a English: Stirring up dust.

Ayah 5 Arabic: فَوَسَطْنَ بِهِ جَمْعًا Transliteration: Fawasatna bihi jam’a English: Penetrating into the midst of a host.

Ayah 6 Arabic: إِنَّ الْإِنسَانَ لِرَبِّهِ لَكَنُودٌ Transliteration: Inna al-insana lirabbihi lakanood English: Indeed, mankind is ungrateful to his Lord.

Ayah 7 Arabic: وَإِنَّهُ عَلَىٰ ذَٰلِكَ لَشَهِيدٌ Transliteration: Wa-innahu ‘ala thalika lashadeed English: And indeed, he is to that a witness.

Ayah 8 Arabic: وَإِنَّهُ لِحُبِّ الْخَيْرِ لَشَدِيدٌ Transliteration: Wa-innahu lihuqqi al-khayri lashadeed English: And indeed, he is intense in love of wealth.

Ayah 9 Arabic: أَفَلَا يَعْلَمُ إِذَا بُعْثِرَ مَا فِي الْقُبُورِ Transliteration: Afala ya’lamu idha bu’thira ma fee al-quboor English: Does he not know when the contents of the graves are overturned?

Ayah 10 Arabic: وَحُصِّلَ مَا فِي الصُّدُورِ Transliteration: Wa hussila ma fee as-sudoor English: And the contents of the breasts (hearts) are made known?

Ayah 11 Arabic: إِنَّ رَبَّهُم بِهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ لَّخَبِيرٌ Transliteration: Inna rabbahum bihim yawma-idhin lakhabir English: Indeed, their Lord, on that Day, will be fully aware of them.

History and Background of Surah Al-Adiyat

Surah Al-Adiyat is a Makki Surah revealed in Makkah during the early period of Prophethood. It was revealed when the Quraysh were rejecting the message of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and showing extreme ingratitude to Allah despite His countless blessings. The Surah uses the example of fast-charging horses in battle to draw attention to how humans are ungrateful to their Lord, love wealth excessively, and forget that they will be held accountable on the Day of Judgment.
