Surah Al-Qiyamah

This Surah opens with Allah swearing by the Day of Resurrection and the self-reproaching soul. It confronts those who deny life after death and outlines the process of resurrection, from the revival of bones to the final reckoning. Surah Al-Qiyamah gives vivid imagery of the terror, shame, and regret of the disbelievers on that Day.

The word “Al-Qiyamah” refers to the Day every soul will stand for judgment. This Surah seeks to awaken the human conscience by reminding us of our inevitable return to Allah. It also introduces the concept of the “self-reproaching soul” (An-Nafs al-Lawwāmah), which shows the internal battle of guilt and moral reflection.
